THE “YOUTH” FOR THE YOUTHFebruary, 2015
Members of the National Youth Desk Office (NYDO) meet to calendar the Youth Program of activities this 2015 to be carried out in all public and private elementary and secondary schools nationwide.
The “young at heart” officers of the NYD comprising of employees from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-CO)Central Office, its attached bureaus and agencies, and regional offices discussed the updates, progress and preparations for the line-up of activities of school youths.
The meetingfacilitated by Maria Magnolia Danganan, DENR-NYDO Officerdeliberated on the activities to be carried out such as clean up drives in school campuses and communities, tree planting, and the celebration of Earth Day.
Other members of the DENR-NYDO from the Regional Offices also recounted the activities being prepared in the regions with regard to the Youth Program as to be effected by the new organizational structure under the DENR Rationalization Plan.
One of the major activities for the school youth this 2015 is the celebration of Earth Day.
On the other hand,environmental awareness activities for the Youth for Environment Schools (YES) Program, led by students in public and private schools which aims to promote environmentaleducation and pursuing activities in schools that nurture the environment were also tackled by the Youth Desk officers.
The DENR in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and other implementing government agencies are mandated to implement environmental awareness through environmental education to boost government efforts in dealing with climate change.
In compliance with Republic Act (R.A.) 9512, also known as “An Act to Promote Environmental Education and for other Purposes, the DepEd issued Memorandum Order No. 52, directing schools to intensify environmental education and pushed for the creation of student-led environmental awareness groups in schools named as Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O).
The DENR is in the forefront in the conservation, management, development and proper use of the country’s environment and natural resources. ###
