Pursuant to Department Administrative Order (DAO) No. 7, Series of 1995 on integration of Gender and Development concerns in all programs and projects of the DENR, the Land Management Bureau (LMB) held a two-day Learning Session on the use of Gender-Fair Language (GFL) in Environment and Natural Resources (ENR) Technical Writing last August 22-23, 2016 at the LMB-CLAMP Conference Room.
The event also follows the directive of the CSC Memorandum Circular No. 12, S. 2005 which incites the use of non-sexist language in official and legal government communications, issuances, and documents. Resource Persons are LMB Assistant Director Engr. Henry P. Pacis for Technical Writing and Dr. Miriam del Rosario-Garcia, former Executive Director, FEU Cavite and consultant for Gender-Fair Language. Together with LMB Action Officers from various Divisions, the activity was participated by select DENR Youth Desk Representatives as well.
The workshop utilized narrative assignments, read-alouds, and GFL statements. Towards the end of the session, each participant was tasked to craft a self-evaluation and reflection to assess the impact of the workshop.
On the second day, technical writing participants from the Records and Knowledge Management Division (RKMD) and Geodetic Surveys Division (GSD) presented their communication materials for review.
The output produced by the LMB Action Officers hoped to reflect the take-aways of the Learning Session, to underscore the importance of men and women in the performance of their roles and duties, and to articulate the use of neutral expression and phrases in information dissemination within vital agencies of the government.
