LMB holds a 9-day Roll Out Training on Alternative Dispute Resolution on Public Land Disputes

The Land Management Bureau (LMB) conducted a Roll-out Training attended by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Alternative Dispute Resolution Officers (ADROs) held at One Pacific Place Serviced Residences in Salcedo Village, Makati, from January 23 to February 02, 2023.

The enhancement training, recommended by the Consultancy Study of the Foundation for Economic Freedom (FEF) on the ADR component of the Responsible Land Governance in Mindanao (RLGM) Project, enabled the participants to learn and experience other forms of dispute resolution and provided a channel to share the ethical dilemmas that they encountered as ADROs.

Topics such as “Baseline of Conflict Resolution” and “Nature and Dynamics of Conflict and Conflict Diagnostic Tools” were discussed on days 1 to 3. These challenged the participants’ ability to identify the common issues they may encounter during the conduct of ADR proceedings. The participants were also taught active listening, how to frame probing questions, and ways of providing feedback without giving the recipient a negative feeling on day 4.

“Interest-based Negotiation and Simulations on Interest-based Negotiation” were covered on days 5 and 6. The participants were allowed to simulate the conduct of negotiations with their focus directed to the interests of the parties. “Interest-based Mediation and Simulations on Interest-based Mediation” took days 7 and 8 where participants also learned about the ethical dilemmas in mediation. Lastly, they were reminded of the good qualities of a good mediator.

In his closing message, the LMB Assistant Director, Engr. Romeo P. Verzosa said, “I, myself, observed that the lectures conducted, the application of what was taught through the small group exercises, and the insights shared, really allowed a deeper understanding and retention of the concepts and the processes.” Aside from this, he added the recognition of efforts and contributions of the attendees and thanked the training provider.
