LMB JOINS THE FIRST PHILIPPINE ENVIRONMENT SUMMIT
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources together with the Green Convergence conducted the first ever Philippine Environment Summit on February 9-11, 2016 at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia in Pasay City. The theme “Greening Together, Growing Better” permeates the 1st Philippine Environment Summit.
The Summit pave the way in bringing together environment leaders of non-government organizations and civil society, government, business, academe, church, and other sectors in celebration of advancements in environmental protection achieved through private and public initiatives. It creates an opportunity for all sectors to unite and collaborate to accelerate the drive towards national sustainable development.
H.E. Gaudencio B. Cardinal Rosales, D.D. Archbishop Emeritus, Archdiocese of Manila gave the Inspirational Address and followed by the Keynote Address of H.E. Benigno Simeon Aquino III which was delivered by the Honorable Secretary of DENR Ramon JP Paje.
Internationally renowned environmental activists Dr. Vandana Shiva of India delivered her recorded message regarding environmental protection while update on Conference of Parties 21, Paris was given by Laurent Legodec, Deputy Head of Mission, French Embassy. Environmental Shadow play was presented by the famous El Gamma Penumbra, Grand Champion, Asia’s Got Talent.
The Summit is co-organized by the Green Convergence — a large coalition of environmental and developmental organizations, networks, faith-based groups and individuals — with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). It showcased programs and projects, breakthroughs and innovations that contribute to social and economic growth, and an exhibit area featuring eco-friendly products and services.
The event was composed of plenary sessions, an exhibit on outstanding environmental practices and technologies, and a recognition ceremony for eco-champions from local government units. Three sessions featured working, sustainable and innovative programs. These are safe food, healthy environment and sustainable economy.
The session on safety focused on food security and the effect of chemical fertilizers and pesticides on soil. Topics include organic agriculture, safe food manufacturing, health and food, and urban gardening and solid waste management.
The Land Management Bureau showcased the accomplishment report on the Cadastral Survey Program of the DENR during the 3-day exhibit. LMB group was led by the Director, Atty. Emelyne V. Talabis, Ms. Alice T. Robles and the CLAMP Staff.
