LMB OBSERVES NDCM AND NDPR WEEK
The event was a two-part session, with Architect Erico Abordo, Focal Person on Accessibility from the Department of Public Works and Highways-National Capital Region (DPWH-NCR), who is a PWD himself, as Resource Person. He introduced the concept of the Accessibility Law which necessitates that certain buildings, institutions and establishments install devices that will mobilize a majority of its possible users for ease of access. He cited as case studies the innovative installations along King’s Road and Causeway in Hongkong and the Taj Mahal landmark in India as PWD-friendly sites and hopes that the government implement the same system of accessibility in the country.
Abordo also discussed the notion of structural assessment that compels evaluation of edifices for cracks, sagging and deformation. A tour of the LMB Building was an apt ending for the learning event.
In her closing remarks, Acting Director Emelyne V. Talabis assured that despite the rejection of the proposal for a Green Data Center that was supposed to house the bureau at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) office in Quezon City, a new proposal will be crafted for a new LMB Building in 2018.
