LMB PARTICIPATES IN 129TH REGULAR SESSION ON LAND POLICY FOR SUSTAINABLE RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN TAIWAN

Alongside countries from the regions of Africa, Asia, Europe, South and Central America, Oceania and the Caribbean Islands, the Land Management Bureau (LMB) sent in Ms. Erma G. Quirimit as the representative of the Philippines to join the 129th Regular Session on Land Policy for Sustainable Rural Development in Taoyuan, Taiwan. Organized by the International Center for Land Policy Studies and Training (ICLPST), the event is a 29-day extensive course, from May 20 to June 17, 2016, and involves medium and high level land policy government officials and experts. The session intends to equip the delegates with the recent economic developments and effective rural land administration techniques where policies were driven by population growth, world trade agreements and competition over natural resources.

In addition to presenting a copy of the Land Sector Development Framework, a guide in future phases of land administration and management, to the ICLPST Director as a token from the Bureau, Ms. Quirimit also bagged an award on Extraordinary Merit for best country presentation on the theme “Local Governance and Rural Land Use”.

The session imparted knowledge on skills and perspectives in assessment and modelling, in land information systems (LIS) and geographic information systems (GIS) in developing and/or transitioning countries, effective management of natural resources, and techniques in information management and institutional development to achieve national development goals. The ICLPST is known for their progressive economic achievements encapsulated in the phrase “the Taiwan Experience”, and hopes to share their models, policy development and implementation regarding Property Ownership and Land Tenure Dynamics, Rural Economy and Development, and Managing Local Governance for Sustainable Development.
