LMB’s ComPassion Project nourishes bodies and fosters unity
In a heartwarming display of compassion and community spirit, the Land Management Bureau (LMB) recently embarked on the “ComPassion” Project from October 23 to November 9, 2023 in support of the 50th year Anniversary Celebration of the Career Executive Service Board (CESB). This initiative aimed to address the pressing issues of malnutrition and poverty among underprivileged children while fostering a sense of unity and compassion among LMB employees.
To maximize the impact of their efforts, LMB collaborated with the Onesimo Bulilit Foundation Inc. (OBFI), a faith-based, non-profit organization dedicated to working with street children and their families in Manila, Philippines. OBFI, a faith based and non-profit organization, is registered and accredited with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). They work tirelessly among street children and their families in Manila, embodying the spirit of compassion and outreach.
LMB initiated the “LMBGives” Donation Drive within the office, setting up donation stations to collect contributions. Every employee was encouraged to contribute at least Php200 which were converted into healthy food packs, ensuring a sustainable supply for the “Share-A-Meal” project. The bureau also collected preloved items such as clothing, medical supplies, and educational supplies, providing aid, healing and warmth to the beneficiaries.
The primary goal of the “Share-A-Meal” Project was to provide nutritious meals to a group of malnourished children who have little to no access to healthy foods. It recognized the critical role of nutrition in a child’s development and aimed to make a positive impact on their overall well-being. Beyond the immediate provision of meals, it also sought to establish a sense of food security for the children. Ensuring consistent access to nutritious food is a fundamental step in breaking the cycle of malnutrition and promoting a healthier future for these young individuals.
Another noteworthy objective was to instill a sense of unity and compassion among the Land Management Bureau employees. By collectively contributing to a cause that directly impacts the lives of disadvantaged children, the project aimed to strengthen the bonds within the LMB community.
Proceeds were directly given to OBFI on November 9, 2023, in Quiapo, Manila City. A total of 183 children were provided healthy food packs, and given seven (7) boxes of various stuff from clothing, shoes, and other. The event began with opening remarks from Raquel Tala, Project Coordinator of OBFI, who warmly welcomed the Land Management Bureau and expressed gratitude on behalf of the foundation. Following this, LMB Director Emelyne Talabis delivered a keynote message highlighting the crucial link between the environment and children’s health. Talabis emphasized the nation’s responsibility to nourish and care for its most important asset—the children.
Messages of gratitude from Onesimo beneficiaries, Angela Zamora and Rosalyn Edusma, underscored the impact of the LMB’s efforts on their lives. The tangible contributions of the Share-A-Meal Program and pre-loved items from the LMBGives initiative were formally turned over to the Onesimo Bulilit Foundation in front of its beneficiaries.
Closing the event, Pastor Michael Quezon expressed appreciation for LMB’s involvement and assured them that the foundation and its beneficiaries would include the LMB community in their prayers.
The “ComPassion” Project stands as a testament to the power of collective action and the positive change that can be achieved when communities come together. The Land Management Bureau’s commitment to addressing issues of malnutrition and fostering a sense of unity reflects a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness of society. As the project demonstrates, small gestures can have a profound impact, creating a ripple effect that reaches far beyond the immediate beneficiaries.
